The Feingold diet is a food elimination program developed by Ben F. Feingold, MD to treat hyperactivity. The Feingold Diet is one of the diets used by naturopathic doctors.

Guidelines

The Fingegold diet involves:[1]

  1. Eliminating those foods with food additives such as petroleum-based preservatives and artificial colours (FD&C and D&C colors), all synthetic flavours, and synthetic preservatives (BHA, BHT and TBHQ) and aspartame.
  2. Eliminating salicylate containing foods such as: almonds, apples, blackberries, cherries, cloves, grapes, nectarines, oranges, plums, strawberries, teas, tomatoes
  3. Avoiding aspirin containing compounds, synthetic toothpastes, perfumes.

Uses

  • The Feingold diet is sometimes recommended in the treatment of ADD/ADHD.[1]
