Essential Nutrients

An essential nutrient is a nutrient that cannot be synthesized by the body and is required for normal body functioning. Essential nutrients must be obtained from a dietary source.[1]

Categories of essential nutrients include vitamins, dietary minerals, essential fatty acids, and essential amino acids.
