Cuprus is characterized by cramps and spasms which occur in virtually every system: the respiratory system, the gastrointestional system, the musculoskeletal systsem, but most importantly the nervous system. Cuprum is the foremost specific remedy for seizure disorders and epilepsy.[1]

Indications

The following are the main indications for Cuprum.[2], [3]

Acute Conditions

  • Seizures and convulsions especially after suppressed eruptions, bellowing or shrieking before the convulsion, convulsions worse at night, pregnancy or menses, worse getting wet and during sleep. Facial convulsions where face turns blue, cyanotic.
  • Asthma which is sudden with nausea, vomiting (which relieves). Nightly attacks. Contracted, spasms in chest; sudden stitches. Suffocation, turns blue. Spasms, cramps, twitching, stuttering, palpitations. Stubborn child with violent anger, biting. Asthma from emotions or suppressed eruptions.

Chronic and Constitutional Conditions

  • Cramping and Spasms anywhere in the body. Severely painful colic, violent vomiting with abdominal cramping and profuse, gushing diarrhea. Cramps in hands, legs, calves, and soles of feet. Dysmenorrhea

Characteristics

  • Triggers: mental or emotional overwork or exhaustion, suppression of symptoms
  • General: cramping and spasms, sudden, violent attacks, intermittent pain
  • Worse: motion, going uphill or up stairs
  • Better: cold drinks, lying down
  • Psychological: extremely closed emotionally, wants to be in charge and have control, avoids everyone who approaches him or her, great anxiety accompanying violent abdominal cramps
  • Other symptoms: muscle twitching of lower extremities, jerking of hands and feet
  • Food and drink: desire for cold drinks

Prescribing Considerations

Homeopathic remedies are prescribed based on homeopathic principles and after a detailed case taking. The prescription recommendations below are provided only as a guide.   • Antidotes: Belladonna, Hepar, Camphor. Copper is found in Dulcam, Staphysagria, Conium and some other plants. Also in King-crab
  • Complementary: Calcarea carbonica
  • Compare: Cuprum sulphuricum (burning at vertex, incessant, spasmodic cough, worse at night, tongue and lips bluish), Cuprum cyanatum (meningitis basilaris), Cholas terrapina (cramps in calves and feet, rheumatism with cramp-like pains), Plumb, Nux vomica, Veratrum, Cuprum oxydatum nigrum 1x (all kinds of worms, including tape-worms and trichinosis)
