Qi Tonics refer the energetic properties of food. A number of foods are known to treat conditions where qi is deficient or weak in the body. These are:
- Herbs such as basil, bay leaf, caraway, cardamom, cayenne, chive, clove, coriander, dill seed, fig, garlic, marjoram, mustard leaf, star anise, turmeric, licorice, ginseng
- Vegetables such as potato, sweet potato, raddish, shitake mushroom, squash, corn, carrot
- Meat such as beef, chicken, rabbit, mutton, pheasant, quail
- Seafood such as herring, mackerel, octopus, mussel, oyster, trout
- Fruits such as cherry, grape, date, orange peel, coconut
- Beans such as lentils, tofu
- Grains such as oats, rice, wheat bran
- Nuts such as walnut
- Sweeteners such as molasses
