Rubefacients increase the circulation to the skin by dilating the skin's capillaries. The blood is drawn from the deeper parts of the body into the skin and thus internal pains are often relieved. Many of the rubefacient herbs are common spices and are commonly used in cooking.
Rubefacient Herbs:
- Black Mustard (Brassica nigra)
- Cayenne (Capsicum annuum)
- Garlic (Allium sativum)
- Ginger (Zingiber officinale)
- Horseradish (Armoracia rusticana)
- Nettle (Urtica dioica)
- Peppermint Oil (Mentha piperita)
- Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) Oil
- Rue (Ruta graveolens)
The above list of herbs are not meant to provide medical advice. They are a list of herbs that have a common action. Talk to a naturopathic doctor before beginning any treatment regimen.
