Cantharis is characterized by a violent and aggressive action on the tissues. It is used mainly in disorders involving the mucous membranes, especially in the urinary tract, and to a lesser extent the gastrointestinal and respiratory systems.[1]

Indications
The following are the main indications for Cantharis.[2], [3]
- Urinary Tract Infections especially of violently sudden onset. Severe burning pain before, after and especially during urination. Bloody urine, constant desire to urinate, urine passes one drop at a time, sensitive kidney region.
- Burns before or after blisters form, but also for stages of infection, ulceration, or gangrene. Burning sensation Second or third degree burn. Better cold applications
- Scalds to mouth, throat or any area. Rawness, stinging, smarting, burning, and itching. Inflamed vesicles. Feels better with cold water.
Other common conditions: sunburns, acid or chemical burns, diarrhea, urethritis, inflammed vesicles, bronchitis, pharyngitis, prostatitis, sexual disorders
Characteristics
- Triggers: suppresed symptoms,
- General: symptoms come on rapidly and progress quickly, burning pains
- Worse: hearing the sound of water, coffee, from touch or approach
- Better: cold or cold applications, rest, lying quietly on her back, rubbing
- Psychological: mental symptoms tend to be extreme, anger or great irritability, excessive sexual energy
- Other symptoms: thick mucous, itchiness
